Laboratories

INFORMATION SYSTEMS LABORATORY

	Laboratory for information systems treats information systems from a technological point of view. The main stress is on:
		contemporary methods for information systems development and maintenance,
		object technology and component development,
		agile and conventional process models and process frameworks,
		distributed architectures and integration methods,
		re-use, patterns and reference model,
		business solutions with emphasis on ERP II systems,
		atomization of business processes,
		methods for project management,
		metrics and quantitative evaluations of complex software products, processes and personnel,
		quality models and approaches to SPI,
		software tools and integrated development environments supporting modelling, planning, implementation, testing and quantitative evaluation.
	Besides the basic research work, the laboratory performs knowledge dissemination including seminars and workshops.

DATABASE TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY

	The core research area is designing and building databases using advanced technologies. Topics of our research are:
		conceptual design,
		relational databases,
		object-oriented databases,
		data mining,
		data warehousing,
		data and information quality,
		MetaBase Repository - repository of already used conceptual designs,
		distributed databases,
		temporal databases,
		RE-technologies.

COMPUTER MEDIATED COMMUNICATION LABORATORY

	Research work of the Computer Mediated Communication Laboratory is performed along the following major lines:
		workflow and knowledge management systems,
		communication aspect of information system development, use and support,
		applications (groupware, decision support, risk management and forecast, process-oriented environments for software process support, multidisciplinary applications),
		quality assurance and assessment in software and other work processes,
		impacts on society (information society, networks as workplaces and collaboration medium, working and learning with multimedia support).

REAL-TIME SYSTEMS LABORATORY

	The main research interest of the members of Laboratory of Real-Time Systems is design of embedded computer control systems operating in the hard real-time domain. Their main goal is to fulfill the tasks within predefined time frames. To guarrantee predictability which is necessary for that, we are in holistic way dealing with all layers involved in the design:
		system, hardware and processor architectures,
		real-time operating systems kernel,
		adequate programming languages and compilers,
		worst-case task program execution time analysis,
		real-time application design,
		their specifications, verification and validation, and
		their safety-critical aspect.
