Current projects

CROMEU

The main aim of the project is to improve the knowledge and capabilities for cooperation of researchers, universities and other institutions from Croatia in European projects.

e-Toll Collection

The project "Electronic Fee Collection for Free-Flowing Traffic" is a result of co-operation between Slovenian companies, universities and a national mobile telecommunication operator. Using the latest telecommunication and information technologies, the project resulted in a prototype solution that works on all highways in Slovenia. The results proved that with the satellite based EFC system governments may introduce a fair toll collection system based on the actual number of kilometers/miles driven in all European countries for all vehicle types.

Methodology for the development of integrated information solutions in a convergent environment

The basic goal of the project is to introduce a unified methodology for the development of integrated information solutions in a convergent environment, which will consist of a methodological framework incorporating patterns, and the mechanisms for applying the methodology to real information systems according to several pilot implementations provided for particular approaches and methods. The following aspects will be covered:

  • Scientific: the design of a methodology for the development of integrated solutions represents a theoretical foundation in the form of a framework, which specifies a technology and platform-independent approach to information systems integration, and covers both the development of new solutions, as well as the integration of existing applications.
  • Strategic: the application of solution patterns provides definitions of certain restrictions, and thereby ensures concordance of resulting solutions with accepted technological and semantic standards, as are the Single European Electronic Market standards (SEEM).
  • Practical: processes of methodology application to real information systems and pilot implementations offer organizations ways to quickly implement integration concepts, and to, consequently, gain practical value from projects without making too high investments.
  • Comparative: by defining the integrability index, it is possible to compare, using a unified, quantitative metric, the level of integration which is achieved by the information system of an organization and is expressed in the form of a multi-criteria vector.
Referential model for further integration of e-business into the judicial system

This interdisciplinary research from the domains of law and informatics is financed by the Faculty of Law. Its goals are to further develop e-business and to increase confidence in it. Some contracts that are made over the electronic mail require a third independent party – an e-notary – to ensure proper judical protection. The primary aim of the research is to deal with external operation of the judiciary and notaries, and with capabilities for composing e-notarial documents and for processing of e-certifications. The research addresses juridically-regulating as well as technological challenges, and lays a foundation for introducing a referential model of the appropriate information architecture enabling efficient design and implementation of IT solutions. On the basis of the unified infrastructure and architecture, high integrability and connectivity will be assured, regardless of the heterogeneity of applied programming tools and platforms. This kind of open architecture, which relies on standards, as do XML and web services, is a necessary prerequisite for successful integration into international electronic business structures, such as SEEM (»Single European Electronic Market«).
Technology network of information-communications technology

The vision of technology network originates from the recognizable common benefits of network members, and from indicated opportunities in the field of information-communications technologies. The major advantages are related to the predicted high growth rates in certain areas of information-communications technologies usage, and with faster economic growth in the states of Central and South-eastern Europe. The key goals of the technology network are the development of new technologies, services and contents aimed at reaching higher added-value, introduction of an innovatory development environment, generation of new knowledge contributed to network member organizations, and a positive influence on other economic areas.
Conceptual design of an e-business system based on ebXML

The goal of the project is to research and define architectural and infrastructural models of an integrated e-business system which is accordant with the ebXML (Electronic Business XML) specifications. The project will comprise the development of a standardized model for the creation and storage of selected documents, with regard to the directions of SEEM (Single European Electronic Market), the definition of corresponding vocabularies, schemes and ebXML Core Components, the proposal for the operationalization of vocabulary transformation mechanisms, and the definition of transformation templates. A strategy for the establishment of an ebXML Messaging Services based an architecture for the interchange of documents, and an ebXML Registry and Repository to locate and access selected ebXML documents, will also be introduced.
