universities and other institutions from Croatia
in European projects. |

| e-Toll
Collection |
| |
The project "Electronic Fee Collection for Free-Flowing
Traffic" is a result of co-operation between
Slovenian companies, universities and a national mobile
telecommunication operator. Using the latest telecommunication
and information technologies, the project resulted
in a prototype solution that works on all highways
in Slovenia. The results proved that with the satellite
based EFC system governments may introduce a fair
toll collection system based on the actual number
of kilometers/miles driven in all European countries
for all vehicle types.

| Methodology for the development of integrated
information solutions in a convergent environment |
| |
The basic goal of the project is to introduce a unified
methodology for the development of integrated information
solutions in a convergent environment, which will
consist of a methodological framework incorporating
patterns, and the mechanisms for applying the methodology
to real information systems according to several pilot
implementations provided for particular approaches
and methods. The following aspects will be covered:
- Scientific: the design of a methodology for the
development of integrated solutions represents a
theoretical foundation in the form of a framework,
which specifies a technology and platform-independent
approach to information systems integration, and
covers both the development of new solutions, as
well as the integration of existing applications.
- Strategic: the application of solution patterns
provides definitions of certain restrictions, and
thereby ensures concordance of resulting solutions
with accepted technological and semantic standards,
as are the Single European Electronic Market standards
(SEEM).
- Practical: processes of methodology application
to real information systems and pilot implementations
offer organizations ways to quickly implement integration
concepts, and to, consequently, gain practical value
from projects without making too high investments.
- Comparative: by defining the integrability index,
it is possible to compare, using a unified, quantitative
metric, the level of integration which is achieved
by the information system of an organization and
is expressed in the form of a multi-criteria vector.

| Referential model for further integration
of e-business into the judicial system |
| |
This interdisciplinary research
from the domains of law and informatics is financed
by the Faculty of Law. Its goals are to further develop
e-business and to increase confidence in it. Some contracts
that are made over the electronic mail require a third
independent party – an e-notary – to ensure proper judical
protection. The primary aim of the research is to deal
with external operation of the judiciary and notaries,
and with capabilities for composing e-notarial documents
and for processing of e-certifications. The research
addresses juridically-regulating as well as technological
challenges, and lays a foundation for introducing a
referential model of the appropriate information architecture
enabling efficient design and implementation of IT solutions.
On the basis of the unified infrastructure and architecture,
high integrability and connectivity will be assured,
regardless of the heterogeneity of applied programming
tools and platforms. This kind of open architecture,
which relies on standards, as do XML and web services,
is a necessary prerequisite for successful integration
into international electronic business structures, such
as SEEM (»Single European Electronic Market«). |
|
| Technology network of information-communications
technology |
| |
The vision of technology network
originates from the recognizable common benefits of
network members, and from indicated opportunities in
the field of information-communications technologies.
The major advantages are related to the predicted high
growth rates in certain areas of information-communications
technologies usage, and with faster economic growth
in the states of Central and South-eastern Europe. The
key goals of the technology network are the development
of new technologies, services and contents aimed at
reaching higher added-value, introduction of an innovatory
development environment, generation of new knowledge
contributed to network member organizations, and a positive
influence on other economic areas. |
|
| Conceptual design of an e-business system
based on ebXML |
| |
The goal of the project is to research
and define architectural and infrastructural models
of an integrated e-business system which is accordant
with the ebXML (Electronic Business XML) specifications.
The project will comprise the development of a standardized
model for the creation and storage of selected documents,
with regard to the directions of SEEM (Single European
Electronic Market), the definition of corresponding
vocabularies, schemes and ebXML Core Components, the
proposal for the operationalization of vocabulary transformation
mechanisms, and the definition of transformation templates.
A strategy for the establishment of an ebXML Messaging
Services based an architecture for the interchange of
documents, and an ebXML Registry and Repository to locate
and access selected ebXML documents, will also be introduced. |

| Technological Reengineering of COBISS
System |
| |
Institute of Informatics ensures
advisory and education services for the needs of COBISS
information system reengineering, respectively COBISS
3 information system development. Through the pilot
solutions development, it also researches and evaluates
technologies and approaches related to object and component
development, XML language and technologies, web services,
and security. |
|
| Transition to Object Technology |
| |
The Object Technology Center assists
the technological evaluation of pilot projects for the
component-based development of Web object applications
using object modelling (UML), distributed objects, CORBA,
Java, JavaBeans and Enterprise JavaBeans, object-relational
database management systems, object transaction monitors,
and networked computers. In addition, special attention
is paid to establishing a defined and systematic object-oriented
software development process. |
|
| Education and consulting for the needs
of the development of secure contemporary IT solutions
based on service oriented architectures, object and component
oriented technologies, and XML technologies |
| |
The aim of the project is to offer
an educational and consulting programme for the necessary
development of secure contemporary IT solutions. The
programme is related to the domains of service-oriented
architectures, object and component oriented technologies,
and XML technologies, with special emphasis on the transformations
of XML documents, security of networks and information
systems, contemporary architectures, UML modelling,
software development processes, design patterns, agile
methods, and the Java platform. |
|
| Design and partial implementation of
a data warehouse and information connections, and data
interchange |
| |
The purpose of the project is to
research and evaluate, by providing pilot solutions,
different architectural designs of an IT solution for
the automation of communication connections between
the Energy Agency of the Republic of Slovenia and organizations
for the production, distribution and transmission of
electrical energy, distribution and transmission of
natural gas, and owners of licenses for providing services
in the energetics market. The research focuses on the
efficient design and implementation of the core of service
oriented architecture for an IT solution, which is based
on XML documents, web services, the .NET framework,
and state of the art security mechanisms. |
|
| Collaboration and consulting on the use
of contemporary technologies and methodologies for the
development of IT solutions |
| |
For the purpose of developing an
information system that will be used by Zavarovalnica
Maribor insurance company, the Institute of informatics
offers consulting and educational services related to
the domains of XML technologies, web services, data
base integration, security, object technology and component
oriented development. |

| Improvement of the efficiency and integration
patterns for the needs of web services and e-business(Izboljšanje
učinkovitosti in integracijskih vzorcev za potrebe spletnih
storitev in e-poslovanja) |
| |
The purpose of the project is to
improve the efficiency of integration patterns for the
needs of developing high quality web services and related
information systems for e-business support, primarily
for B2B (Business-to-Business) and B2G (Business-to-Government)
integration. The project has the following goals:
- identification of bottlenecks and disadvantages
of existing integration patterns related to web
services;
- introduction and optimization of solutions to
overcome the identified bottlenecks and disadvantages;
- proof of improved efficiency by providing pilot
models of e-business applications, which are exposed
to measurements based on quantitative metrics defined
within the model for the evaluation of efficiency
of distributed architectures;
- identification of improvements and best practices,
and modification of integration patterns, with the
aim of enhancing the efficiency of e-business applications
through the use of web services;
- definition of procedures to apply integration
patterns to information systems of mainly small
and medium sized enterprises (SME)

| ManagEUr
- Certified EU project manager |
| |
The project aims to develop a European
skill card of a certified EU project manager. This skill
card will be made available through an up-to-date solution
(MM 1032 multimedia project CREDIT, 1998 – 2001), which
offers an online system for browsing the skills card,
performing self-assessment online, collecting evidence,
and receiving a formal assessment of the evidence online.
A skills gaps profile will show which course modules
the student still would have to attend to manage the
accreditation as a certified EU project manager. The
project will develop the courses, the skills card, and
configure the accreditation system for online services. |
